RIVER erosion/transp
RIVER erosion
Question | Answer |
---|---|
Cavitation | Pressure caused by collapsing bubbles in fast flowing water which weaken the river bed |
Hydraulic Action | The force of moving water |
Abrasion (corrasion) | The erosive power of the river's load as it strikes the river bed |
Attrition | The bed load eroding itself a it collides together. |
Solution | Carbonic Acid in the water erodes soluble rocks such as limestone, the dissolved rock particles are removed in solution |
Suspension | The lightest particles i.e. clay and silt which are carried along in the flow of the river without settling on the river bed |
Saltation | Small rocks and light pepples which are caried along by the flow of the river and bounce off the river bed |
Traction | Occurs with the heaviest if the river's load. Boulders and large rocks are dragged and rolled along the river bed. |
DEFINE - Erosion | the removal of rock and regolit hfrom its original postion |
DEFINE - Transportation | The moving of an eroded load to a new position |
DEFINE - Deposition | The settling down of eroded material further downstream |
DEFINE - Discharge | The amount of water carrid by a river at any given time |
