| sound wave | a pressure wave or vibration that travels through a gas, liquid, or solid. |
| vibrate | to move back and forth |
| echo | a reflection or bouncing back of a sound wave |
| frequency | how many waves (∿ = 1 wave) there are in one second |
| hertz | the unit of measure for sound waves |
| wave length (symbol = λ) | how far it is from the top of one sound wave to the top of the next one |
| decibel (symbol = dB) | a measure of how loud a sound is (a whisper is about 30 and regular talking about 60) |
| pitch | how high or low a sound is |
| absorb | to take in (like a sponge sucks up water) |
| amplify | to make stronger |
