Glossary for APM Project Management Qualification
| Term | Definition |

| Stakeholder engagement | The systematic identification, analysis, planning and implementation of actions designed to influence stakeholders. |
| Stakeholders | Organisations or people who have an interest or role in the project, programme or portfolio, or are impacted by it. |
| Communication | The process of exchanging information and confirming there is shared understanding. |
| Communication plan | A document that identifies what information is to be communicated to whom, why, when, where, how, by whom, through which medium and the desired impact. |
| Face to face communication | Each participant can see the other party or parties in a conversation (so including videoconferencing). |
| Noise | Any influence that modifies the meaning of a message to the receiver. This includes, culture, language, environment, etc. as well as sound interference. |
| Physical communication | Non-verbal communication, including printed material, posters, signage, etc. |
| Virtual communication | Interactive communication without co-location, relying on some technology platform to provide a communication medium (telephone, videoconference, screen-sharing application, etc.) |
| BATNA | Best Alternative To a Negotiated Agreement. |
| Conflict management | The process of identifying and addressing differences that if left unmanaged would affect successful completion of objectives. |
| Negotiation | A discussion between two or more parties aimed at reaching agreement. |
| ZOPA | Zone of potential agreement. |
