2 ENZYME FORMS OF CYCLOOXYGENASE >COX-1 -Protects the stomach lining & regulates blood platelates, thus promoting blood clotting. >COX-2 -Triggers pain & Inflammation at the injured site.
Have an analgesics effect as well as an antipyretic & anti-inflammarory action Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
-is a NSAID & is the oldest non narcotic drug still use -aspirin decreases platelet aggregation (clotting) Aspirin
a popular non prescription drug taken by infants, children adults & older adults to relieve pain, discomfort, & fever. -Nonnarcotic Drug Acetaminophen
Examples of Analgesics SALICYLATES -COX-2 INHIBITORS -PARAAMINOPHENOL -NSAID's: Propionic Acid NARCOTIC ANALGESICS
OPIOD's 2 isomeres Levo&Dextro
Produced an analgesic effect only LEVO ISOMERS
Do not cause physical dependence,whereas levo-isomers opiod do DEXTRO ISOMERS
-drugs made from the Opium Poppy Flower which relieve pain. It is use to make (Paregoric, Codeine, Morphine, Heroin) Narcotic / Opiates
-Papaver Somniferum -Poppy Seed Opium
-A potent analgesics that can really depress respirations. Morphine
-one of the first synthetic narcotics, became available in the mid 1950's Mepiredine
Semi-synthetic narcotic similar to morphine HYDROMORPHINE (DILAUDID)
-Provide a continous "around the clock" pain control helpful to clients who suffer from chronic pain (Fentanyl (Duragesic) ). TRANSDERMAL OPIOD ANALGESICS
-Mixed narcotic agonist-antagonist (Pentazocine (Talwin) ). NARCOTIC AGONIST
