Autonomic Nervous System

Consist of brain and spinal cord Central Nervous System (CNS)
Located outside the brain and spinal cord Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
PNS is made up of 2 division The autonomic & The somatic
it is also called viceral system Autonomic Nervous System
2 sets of neurons in autonomic component of the PNS are Afferent neurons (sensory) & Efferent neurons (motor)
Send impulse to the CNS, where they are interpreted Afferent neurons
Receive impulses (infromation) from brain Efferent neurons
The efferent pathways in the ANS are divided into 2 branches: Sympathetic & Parasympathetic nerves
Also called as adrenergic system Sympathetic NS
4 types of adrenergic receptor Alpha1, Alpha2, Beta1, Beta2
It is also called called cholinergic system Parasympathetic NS
2 group of drugs that affect the sympathetic NS Adrenergic & Adrenergic Blockers
Drugs that stimulate the sympathetic NS Adrenergics
Another adrenergic receptor and is located in the renal, mesenteric, coronary and cerebral arteries Dopaminergic
Increases force of heart constriction Alpha1
Inhibits the release of norepinephrine Alpha2
Increases HR and force of contraction Beta1
Dilates bronchioles; promotes GI and uterine relaxation Beta2
