Unit 4 Metabolic Reactions Walker

What are tissues? Groups of similar cells that work together to carry out specific tasks.
This system consists of ductless glands throughout the body. Endocrine system
What do plants NOT need in life? Oxygen and glucose
What is the outer layer of a leaf? Epidermis
The process that uses light and gas to make sugar is called what? Photosynthesis
Why are leaves green? Mainly because of chlorophyll in photosynthesis. Also due to light patterns.
What are the 2 reactions of cellular respiration? Anaerobic and Aerobic
What does aerobic respiration do? Uses oxygen to break down food and release energy.
Do plants have to do cellular respiration? Why or Why not? Yes because it is used to make energy for the plant cells so that it can grow.
What do plants NEED in life? Carbon Dioxide and Water.
What are nutrients? Substances that are important to living things.
What is food? Any substance that provides nutritional support for the body.
Is fat important to the body? Yes, but healthy fats only.
What does the thyroid release. A hormone known as thyroxin.
What do the adrenal glands release? A hormone known as corticosteroids.
What controls the rate of metabolic reactions? Thyroxin
What are 4 things that influence the rate of metabolic reactions? Hormones, diet, age, exercise.
What would happen if a person's thyroid stopped working? They would have to take pills that release thyroxin and corticosteroids so that you have a metabolism.
Protects from water loss and outer environment: Integumentary system
What's the only body system do you NOT NEED to live. The reproductive system.
