Unit 4 Walker
Unit 4 Metabolic Reactions Walker
| What are tissues? | Groups of similar cells that work together to carry out specific tasks. |
| This system consists of ductless glands throughout the body. | Endocrine system |
| What do plants NOT need in life? | Oxygen and glucose |
| What is the outer layer of a leaf? | Epidermis |
| The process that uses light and gas to make sugar is called what? | Photosynthesis |
| Why are leaves green? | Mainly because of chlorophyll in photosynthesis. Also due to light patterns. |
| What are the 2 reactions of cellular respiration? | Anaerobic and Aerobic |
| What does aerobic respiration do? | Uses oxygen to break down food and release energy. |
| Do plants have to do cellular respiration? Why or Why not? | Yes because it is used to make energy for the plant cells so that it can grow. |
| What do plants NEED in life? | Carbon Dioxide and Water. |
| What are nutrients? | Substances that are important to living things. |
| What is food? | Any substance that provides nutritional support for the body. |
| Is fat important to the body? | Yes, but healthy fats only. |
| What does the thyroid release. | A hormone known as thyroxin. |
| What do the adrenal glands release? | A hormone known as corticosteroids. |
| What controls the rate of metabolic reactions? | Thyroxin |
| What are 4 things that influence the rate of metabolic reactions? | Hormones, diet, age, exercise. |
| What would happen if a person's thyroid stopped working? | They would have to take pills that release thyroxin and corticosteroids so that you have a metabolism. |
| Protects from water loss and outer environment: | Integumentary system |
| What's the only body system do you NOT NEED to live. | The reproductive system. |
