QUERULOUS complaining in an annoyed way, whining
NEUROTIC excessive anxiety or worry, to the point of becoming unhealthy
PERIPHERAL something out of your field of view; not the main part
IMPERIOUS someone who is arrogant or bossy and expects others to listen to them
UNOBTRUSIVELY in a way that is not attracting attention
BRIDLES to react in an angry way
INVALID a person who is sick or disabled and needs to be cared for
STOLIDLY expressing little or no emotion; not easily excited or upset
FIENDISH very evil, cruel, or unpleasant
CATECHIZING to question systematically and searchingly
DRAMA also called a play; performed by actors in front of an audience
CAST OF CHARACTERS a list of all characters in the play; may include a brief description of the character
STAGE DIRECTIONS instructions for the actors, director, and stage crew, often appear in parentheses and italics
DIALOGUE written conversation between two or more characters
SUSPENSE a feeling of growing tension and excitement in a reader; makes a reader curious about the outcome of the story or event
FORESHADOWING hints provided by the writer that suggest future events in a story; creates suspense and makes readers eager to find out what happens.
