| Conflict | a struggle between two forces; the crucial tension in a story to moves the plot forward; a problem |
| Contrary | opposite in nature or character |
| Crept | moved slowly or stealthily (past tense of creep) |
| Deceiving | misleading or deceptive |
| Dialogue | written conversation between two or more characters |
| Disillusioned | having lost one’s ideals or false ideas about something; cynical or disappointed |
| Dismissive | uninterested or indifferent |
| Distressed | suffering from great pain, anxiety, or sorrow |
| Espionage | the act or practice of spying |
| Extradited | gave up (as an alleged fugitive or criminal) to another state or nation at its request; deported or banished |
| Foreshadow | to hint at an event in the story before it happens |
| Furious | full of rage; extremely angry |
| Genuine | representing one’s true nature or beliefs; sincere; authentic; real |
| Instructive | serving to teach or inform; conveying knowledge |
| Introspective | observing or examining one’s own mental or emotional state; self-reflective |
| Intrusive | coming without invitation or welcome; invasive or pushy |
| Justifiable | can be proven or defended as right or reasonable |
| Observational | tending to notice or perceive things |
| Opposition | a group or person acting against or protesting something |
| Pardon | to release (a person) from the penalty of an offense; officially forgive |
| Perception | the act of understanding or ability to fully apprehend by reason or intuition |
| Perceptiveness | keen insight, understanding, or intuition; the ability to recognize something for what it truly is |
| Precedent | a legal decision that serves as a guide or justification for future situations-something that happens for the first time and it stays that way in the future |
| Preconceived | describes and idea or opinion formed before seeing evidence; predetermined or possibly prejudiced |
| Prevalent | widespread or common |
| Promoted | endorsed or praised in a public setting |
| Resolution | the conclusion of a story’s plot when the conflict is resolved in some way |
| Revelation | a surprising and previously unknown fact, especially one that is made public in a dramatic way |

| Self-assurance | confidence in one’s own ability or character |
| Setting | the time, place, and/or environment in which a story occurs |
| Sincere | honest and not hypocritical; heartfelt; genuine |
| Speech impediment | a type of communication disorder where 'normal' speech is disrupted |

| Tone | an author or character’s attitude toward something, as conveyed by word choice and style |
