TermDefinition
The thin and solid outermost level of the earth above the mantle. Crust
The solid, outer layer of the earth that consist of the crust and rigid upper part of the mantle. Lithosphere
Literally the “middle sphere”; the strong, lower part of the mantle between the asthenosphere and the outer core. Mesosphere
The thick layer of between the earths crust and core Mantle
The somewhat solid layer of the mantle beneath the lithosphere; made of mantle rock that flows very slowly, which allows tectonic plates to move on top of it Asthenosphere
The central part of the earth below the mantle Core
The layer of earths interior located between the inner core and the mantle, composed mostly of iron and nickel Outer core
The solid inner most part of the earth, composed mostly of iron and nickel under extremely high pressure and temperature Inner core
