| waves | A repeating disturbance that transfers energy from one place to another. |
| Energy | Ability to do work. |
| Mechanical waves | A wave that travels through a medium due to the motion of matter. |
| Amplitude | The vertical distance between a peak and valley and the resting position in a transverse wave. |
| wavelength | Measures the length of one cycle |
| Frequency | Number of waves in a set amount of time. |
| speed | The rate at which a wave travels |
| refraction | A change of direction that light undergoes when it enters a medium. |
| absorb | Take in or soak up energy or a liquid or other substance by chemical or physical actions. |
| Transmission | Cause something to pass on from one place to another. |
| Electromagnetic waves | Waves created as a result of vibrations between electric fields and magnetic fields |
