Abnormal behavior Is behavior that is deviant, maladaptive, or personally distressful over a relatively long period of time
Deviant Behavior interferes with a person's ability to function effectively in the world
Personal distress Person engaging in behavior finds it troubling
Borderline personality disorder Characterized by pervasive pattern of instability in interpersonal relationships, self-image, and emotions and by marked impulsivity in a variety of contexts
Four key features of borderline personality Unstable affect Unstable sense of self and identity Negative interpersonal relationships Self—harm
ADHD Characterized by symptoms of inattention, impulsivity, and sometimes hyperactivity
anxiety disorders Involve fears that are uncontrollable, disproportionate to the actual danger the person might be in, and disruptive of ordinary life
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) Experience persistent, excessive anxiety about a broad range of topics that is difficult to control and has been present at least 6 moths
panic disorder Experience recurrent, sudden onset's of intense terror, often without warning and with no specific cause
Specific Phobia Irrational, overwhelming, persistent fear of if a particular object or situation
Social anxiety disorder Experience marked fear or anxiety about one or more social situation in which the individual is exposed to possible scrutiny from others
obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) Anxiety-provoking thoughts that will not go away and/or urges to preform repetitive, ritualistic behaviors to prevent or produce some future situation
post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) Develops through exposure to a traumatic event (or events) that has overwhelmed a persons abilities to cope
Mood Related Disorders Disturbance of mood that affect entire emotional state
Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) A significant depressive episode (depressed mode and/ or lack of interests in activities you used to enjoy)
Bipolar disorder Presence of at least one manic episode, usually (but not necessarily) preceded by and/ or followed by major depressive episodes
dissociative disorders Psychological disorders that involve a sudden loss of memory or change in identity due to the dissociation (separation) of the individual's conscious awareness from previous memos rid and thoughts
dissociative amnesia Characterized by extreme memory loss that caused by extensive psychological stress
dissociative identity disorder (DID) Dissociative disorder in which the individual has two or more distinct personalities or selves, each with its own enemies is, behaviors, and relationships
Schizophrenia A severe psychological disorder characterized by highly disordered thought process
Symptoms of Schizophrenia hallucinations delusions Referential thinking Movement disorders Catalonia Flat affect
Personality Didorders Chronic, maladaptive cognitive-behavioral patterns that are thoroughly integrated into an individuals personality
antisocial personality disorder Characterized by guiltless was, law-breaking, exploitation of others, irresponsible, and deceit
