scoffs speak to someone or about something in a scornfully derisive or mocking way.
rim the upper or outer edge of an object, typically something circular or approximately circular.
syncopated a temporary change in a music's rhythm or beat--you stress the weak beat instead of the strong one
alliances an agreement between two or more parties. It is made to benefit both parties.
