| Acts | a law created or passed by government |
| taxation without representation | forcing people to pay taxes when they have had no say in making the law that create the tax |
| protest | to object in a public way to something that one believes is unfair or wrong |
| proclamation | an official public announcement |
| parliament | the lawmaking part of the British government |
| delegates | a person who presents others at a convention or conference |
| repeal | to cancel, or undo, a law |
| import | to bring into country, especially for sale |
| massacre | the murder of several of many people who can't defend themselves |
| boycotted | to protest by refusing to use or buy a good or service |
| First Continental Congress | a meeting of delegates from 12 colonies- held to presents complaints to King George III |
| patriot | those people who wanted to separate from the control of the British government |
| loyalist | those people who wanted to remain a part of Britain |
| Sons of Liberty | a group of colonists who pretested against increasing taxation and control by Britain, as well boycotted British goods |
| independence | separation from Britain |
| neutral | did not take sides in the fight |
| traitor | a person guilty of betraying or acting against his own country |
