| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Matter | Anything that has weight and takes up space |
| Properties | Characteristics that describe something (shape, color, size, weight, texture…) |
| Helium | A gas that has no color or smell and is less dense than air. It is often used to make party balloons float. |
| Density | A property of matter that measures how close together the particles are inside a substance. |
| Solubility | A property of matter that measures how well one thing can dissolve in another |
| Conductivity | A property of matter that measures how well something can allow electricity to flow through it |
| Solid | particles are arranged tightly together. Has definite shape and definite volume |
| Liquid | Particles take the shape of the container. Has definite volume but not definite shape |
| Gas | Particles take the shape of the container and expand in all directions. No definite shape, no definite volume |
| Boiling point/Condensation point | Temperature at which as substance begins to boil/condense (100 degrees C and 212 degrees F) |
| Freezing point/Melting point | Temperature at which asubstance begins to freeze/melt ( ) degrees C and 32 degrees F) |
| Atom | The smallest particle of a substance |
| Particle Model of Matter | The idea that all matter is made up of particles too small to be seen |
| Vacuum chamber | A chamber form which air is removed by a vacuum pump |
| Liquid nitrogen | A very cold liquid made from nitrogen gas |
| Graduated cylinder | A scientific tool used to accurately measure out liquids |
