Reading and Writing Informational Texts

cause and effect the reason something happens and the result of it happening
complete sentences a complete thought contains a subject and verb; begins with a capital letter and ends with a punctuation mark.

paraphrase to restate in other words
plagiarism taking credit for someone else's writing or ideas
punctuation the use of marks such as commas and periods in writing
revising looking at one's paper through a fresh, or different perspective, to see what can be improved Ex: adding new thoughts, enhancing character development, clarify ideas

chronological arranged in order of time
compare and contrast shows the similarities and differences of two things
descriptive explains and gives details about a topic
inference a conclusion reached on the basis of evidence of reasoning

sequential arranged in an order of steps
text structure how a text is organized
annotate to add brief notes to a reading passage
