Geographic Tools

QuestionAnswer
Compass Rose helps us know which direction would be North, East, South, or West.
Scale helps us measure distances on a map
Legend or Key A box on a map, which tells us the meaning of the symbols used on a map
Political Map A map that uses color to show countries, states, or other political divisions
Physical Map A map that uses color to show land elevations and water depths
Thematic or Special Purpose Map A map that focuses on one main idea such as rainfall, population, growing season, land use, energy resources, climate, natural vegetation
Title of a Map Shows the purpose of the map.
