Sections

QuestionAnswer
assembly sections a section cut into a multipart model to show the internal construction of the model & provide clarity of the innerworkings.
auxiliary sections cut into an auxiliary view.
break or broken out section Removes a defined area of material Exposes obscured parts or features in an existing drawing view
broken view Used when the component view exceeds the length of the drawing Used when scaling the component view to fit the drawing makes the component view prohibitively small Used view contains large areas of nondescript geometry
crosshatching a pattern used to indicate the material and the solid areas of the section.
cutting plane line represents the location and orientation of the cutting plane for a section view.
detail view Represents a specified portion of a view Used a zoom to enlarge areas better represented by enlarging for clarity
full section Cuts the drawing completely apart, generally horizontal or vertical & often passes through the center of the drawing
half section is one half of a full section, two cutting plane lines at right angles & used when drawing symmetrical objects
offset section Cutting plane lines are shifted to include missing details
section lines represent the area of the object on a section view that was severed by the cutting plane.
Revolved section used to the show cross section shape that is not visible from other views, often save space by rotating the section 90 degrees and placing the section in a standard view & the cutting plane line is normally perpendicular to the axis of the part/object.
Aligned Sections features such as spokes, holes, and ribs are drawn as if rotated into, or out of, the cutting plane.
Auxiliary View a view used to show a true size and shape of a surface (usually included or angled)
