QuestionAnswer
What are Attribution errors? Source of great misunderstanding, injustice, misery. The mental process of informing the causes of behavior of self or others. Overestimation of our ability to interpret why people do things they do.
What is attribution? To attribute or determine credit or cause
Fundamental attribution errors? Tendency to OVERestimate the INTERNAL or PERSONAL INFLUENCE upon ignoring or UNDER estimating the situatioal influences upon their behavior. ex: suzy a dork. situation- under too much pressure disposition- she is self involved and clueless.
Blaming the victim Tendency to blame an innocent victim of misfortunate for somehow having caused the problem. ex: rape victim she shouldn't dress like that she's just asking for it.
Just world hypothesis Assumption world is fair, therefore people deserve what happens to them. ex:homeless person
Actor observer discrepency This happened to you fo r1 reason happend to me for another. Ex: I fail-prof stupid. You fail- didn't study. Tendency to attribute one's own neg. behavior to enviornmental causes while attributing neg.behavior or situation of others to be internal cause.
Self serving bias Attribute succesful outcomes to one's own behavior to personal/internal causes & unsuccessful causes to external/environmental reasons. ex: hired cuz i'm fantastic fired cuz boss is a jerk.
