realistic fiction | a form of fiction that reflect "real life" situations. Stories can be set in real life places with fictional characters. |

science fiction | a form of fiction that contains elements such as outer space, technology,or medicine. |
fantasy | a form of fiction which contains supernatural characters, magical powers, animals or creatures with human characteristics, humans in a magical setting, etc... |
historical fiction | a form of fiction that is based on real events that happened in the past but not all of the characters or the story parts are true |
mystery | form of fiction in which the story revolves around solving a puzzle or problem |
fables | form of fiction that teaches a lesson to the reader. Characters talk and act human. |
legend | form of fiction in which the story is about a a real life hero and his/her mighty deeds |
myths | form of fiction that pertains to the actions of gods and goddesses. Characters are supernatural beings with human emotions and qualities |
traditional literature | a form of fiction that has been passed down for many generations and may have several versions of the story |
action & adventure | a form of both fiction/non-fiction that tells a story of characters involved with physical actions and courageous heroes |
graphic novel | a form of fiction/non-fiction with vivid pictures and themes. Many consider it a comic with a book's length. |
poetry | literature based on rhythm and rhyme that can be written in stanzas or verse |
