3.4 Know about types of alcoholic beverage and their strengths

| alcohol by volume (abv) | A measurement displayed on the label of all alcoholic beverages to show how much alcohol they contain, as a percentage of the total volume of liquid. |
| units of alcohol | A measurement displayed on the label of all alcoholic beverages to show how much alcohol is in one serving of a drink. |
| 14 units | Adults are advised not to drink more than this number of units of alcohol per week on a regular basis. |
| wine | An alcoholic beverage made from fermented grapes. |
| between 11% and 14% | The typical alcoholic content of wine, by volume. |
| 2 units | The number of units of alcohol that a regular size glass of wine typically contains. |
| 3 units | The number of units of alcohol that a large size glass of wine typically contains. |
| spirits | This type of alcoholic beverage is very strong and made by the distillation of grains, fruits or vegetables. Varieties include brandy, gin, rum, tequila, vodka, and whisky. |
| between 35% and 40% | The typical alcoholic content of a spirit, by volume. |
| 1 unit | The number of units of alcohol that a small shot of spirits typically contains. |
