Literary Terms "All Summer in a Day"

Sensory Imagery descriptive language that appeals to one or more of the the five senses
Hyperbole extreme exaggeration
Metaphor compares two unlike things by saying one IS the other
Simile compares two unlike things using like or as
Personification when animals or inanimate objects are given human qualities or characteristics
Onomatopoeia words that represent sounds
Alliteration repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning of words close to each other
Foreshadowing when the author hints at upcoming events without directly stating that they will happen
