Pavlov's Theory
Pavlov's Theory- Classical Conditioning
Question | Answer |
---|---|
What is classical conditioning? | a learning process that builds up between 2 stimuli by repeating the same scenario several times |
Who is the developer of the classical conditioning theory? | Ivan Pavlov |
What animal did Pavlov choose to test this theory? | a dog |
Can learning be active and passive? True or False | True |
What is the role of the learner in classical conditioning? | passive |
What are the key process in classical conditioning? | acquisition, extinction, spontaneous recovery, stimulus generalisation, stimulus discrimination |
What is acquisition? | the initial stage of learning when a response is first established and gradually strengthened. |
What is extinction? | gradual decrease in strength and rate of conditioned response until it no longer occurs after conditioned stimulus is repeatedly presented without the unconditioned stimulus |
What is spontaneous recovery? | reappearance of an extinguished response after extinction and a rest period which is caused by a conditioned stimulus without the unconditioned stimulus |
What is stimulus generalisation? | tendency for an organism to respond to a stimulus that is similar to the conditioned stimulus |
What is stimulus discrimination? | phenomenon when an organism responds to the conditioned stimulus but not to any stimulus that is similar to it, and has the ability to distinguish between two or more different stimulus, even if the stimuli are similar |
