WATER CYCLE&PROPERTI

WATER CYCLE AND PROPERTIES OF WATER

TermDefinition
Precipitation Phenomena that occurs when the clouds get heavy and water falls back to the earth in the form of rain, hail, sleet or snow.
Condensation Phenomena that occurs when the water vapor in the air gets cold and changes back into liquid, forming clouds
Transpiration Process by which plants lose water out of their leaves.
Evaporation Phenomena that occurs when the sun heats up water in rivers or lakes or the ocean and turns it into vapor or steam that goes into the air
Surface run-off Process by which liquid water on the earth surface flows across the land forming rivers that eventually return water to the seas and oceans.
Infiltration Process by which liquid water penetrates the earth surface and becomes underground run off
Underground run-off Process by which liquid water flows below the surface forming underground rivers that eventually return water to the seas and oceans.
Universal Solvent Property of water by which many substances can be dissolved in it producing blood, sap ....
Boiling and Melting Points Property of water thanks to which most water on Earth is liquid, which makes it possible for life to exist.
Temperature Regulation Property of water that facilitates life on Earth by keeping temperatures constant, not too hot and not too cold.
Density Variation Property of water by which ice occupies more space than liquid water so it's less dense than liquid water and so, it floats on the surface of water producing an insulating top layer that allows life to continue below the ice.
