diazepam Uses | Anti-Anxiety (Anxiolytic), Hypnotic, Anticonvulsant Purposes, Pre-Op Sedation, Prevention of agitation and delirium tremens in acute alcohol withdrawal, Treatment of Anxiety Symptoms associated with depression, acute psychosis or mania |
diazepam Adverse Effects | CNS depression effects (drowsiness, lethargy), new or worsening seizures, nausea, constipation, drooling or dry mouth, mild skin rash, itching - concerns of overdose |
diazepam Contraindications | Severe Respiratory Disorders,Severe liver or kidney Disease, Hypersensitivity Reactions, History of Alcohol or other drug abuse, Narrow-Angle Glaucoma, Pregnant or Breastfeeding (Cat D), Concurrent use with other CNS Depressants |
diazepam RN Considerations | monitor BP,pt needs to identify/avoid factors that cause nervousness, no need to take a combo of anxiety meds, do NOT perform tasks that require alertness , avoid alcohol, do NOT stop taking abruptly, take with water or food |
