What is the 'Astonishing Hypothesis"? It is that you, your joys, and your sorrows, your memories and your ambitions, your sense of personal identity and free will, are in fact no more than the behavior of a vast assembly of nerve cells and their associated molecules.
What did DesCartes believe? He believed in Dualism; that people are two parts (material and spiritual).
What do Neurons do? They sum up and transmit information. There are 100,000,000,000 in the human brain.
Give an example of how sensory neurons, motor neurons, and interneurons work. You touch something hot - it burns you - you pull away. Your sensory neurons sense it is hot, tells your interneurons, which tells your motor neurons to pull away.
What does it mean when your Neurons can code for 'intensity'? They know the number of neurons firing and the frequency of neurons firing. (Example: Fire. Fire. Fire. Fire. VS: firefirefirefiREFIREFIREFIRE).
What neurotransmitters do Axons release? Give examples of each. Excitatory (+) such as amphetamines or prozac, and Inhibitory (-) such as alcohol or curare.
Name all six parts of a Neuron. 1. Dendrite 2. Nucleus 3. Axon 4. Cellbody 5. Myelin Sheath 6. Axon Terminal
