Neuromuscular Disease Pathophysiology | The main respiratory muscle affected by NMD is the diaphragm. Patients can lose control of this muscle due to trauma or an inherited disease that blocks the phrenic nerve from sending impulses to it. This causes the patient to have no stimulus to breathe. |
