Motion Vocabulary

| Motion | The changing of position or location |
| Force | Making things move by pushing or pulling |
| Inertia | A property that all things have because that they have mass |
| Acceleration | An increase in the rate or speed of something |
| Gravity | A force of attraction between objects that have mass |
| Friction | A force that happens when objects rub against one another |
| Air Resistance | A friction-like force that opposes motion of objects that move through air |
| Speed | A distance traveled per unit of time |
| Velocity | The speed of an object in one direction |
| Sir Isaac Newton | Scientist who created 3 Laws of Motion |
| Newton's 1st Law | An object in motion stays in motion; an object at rest stays at rest unless acted on by an outside force |
| Newton's 2nd Law | A force, acting on an object, will change its velocity by changing either its speed or its direction or both. |
| Newton's 3rd Law | For every force and action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. |
