| Term | Definition |

| Solutions | A mixture containing a solvent and at least one solute and has the same properties throughout. |
| Solvent | This is the part of the solution usually present in the largest amount. |
| Solute | It is the substance that is dissolved by the solvent. Solutes can be gases, liquids, and solids. |
| Colloid | This is a mixture containing small undissolved particles that do not settle out. EX FOG |
| Suspension | It is a mixture which particles can be seen and easily separated by settling or filtration. |
| Dilute Solution | It is a mixture that has only a little solute dissolved in a certain amount of solvent. |
| Concentrated Solution | A mixture that has a lot of solute dissolved in the solvent. |
| Solubility | The measure of how much solute can dissolve in a solvent at a given temperature. |
| Saturated Solution | When you add so much solute that no more dissolves you have a saturated solution. |
| Acids | They react with metals and carbonates, tastes sour, litmus paper turns red. |
| Bases | A base tastes bitter feels slippery and turns red litmus paper blue. |
