| act | a way a drama is organized and is made up of different scenes |
| cast | actors performing in a play or film |
| dialogue | conversation between two or more characters |
| drama | - often called a play - a story told through dialogue and action |
| scene | a sequence of continuous action in a play |
| stage direction | an instruction in the text of a play, especially one indicating the movement, position, or tone of an actor, or the sound effects and lighting. |
| monologue | a long speech by one actor in a play |
| aside | a remark or passage in a play that is intended to be heard by the audience but unheard by the other characters in the play. |
| soliloquy | an act of speaking one's thoughts aloud when by oneself or regardless of any hearers, especially by a character in a play. |
| tragedy | a play dealing with tragic events and having an unhappy ending, especially one concerning the downfall of the main character. |
| lyric | drama or poem which expresses personal emotions or feelings, typically spoken in the first person |
| ballad | a poem or song narrating a story in short stanzas |
| comedy | a play characterized by its humorous or satirical tone and its depiction of amusing people or incidents, in which the characters ultimately triumph over adversity. |
