| Ointment | Emulsion of an oil and water, mainly oil |
| Sprits | Alcohol solution with volatile oils |
| Syrups | No alcohol. Heavy solution of sugar and water |
| Tinctures | Solution of alcohol and water. Active ingredient is 10-20% |
| Enteric | Does not dissolve in the stomach. Formulated so that its decreases chance of GI irritation |
| Suspension | Liquid containing dissolved particles. Must be shaken befor use |
| Sublingual | Medication places under the tongue |
| Parenteral | Administration of a drug other than oral method |
| Prescription | Legal document- written order from physician to pharmacist |
| Subscription | Directions to the pharmacist for compounding |
| Superscription | Name, address, Rx symbol |
