Vocabulary Words and Definitions

TermDefinition
ancestor Relative who lived long ago
generation People, usually in a family, born about the same time
monument Building that honors a person, event, or idea (Examples: Statue of Liberty & Gateway Arch)
perspective How things are seen from a particular point of view
unique Having to do with qualities found in only one person, group, place, thing, or idea
opportunity Chance for something better
steerage Least expensive sleeping accommodations on a passenger ship
vermin Unpleasant insects or small animals that can sometimes cause harm
format Appearance or presentation of your writing (Examples: essay, letter, poem, or speech)
FTAP = We use this acronym {the part that is underlined} when looking at a writing prompt. F = Format = How am I writing? T = Topic = What am I writing about? A = Audience = Who am I writing to? P = Purpose = Why am I writing?
