Motion

All about Motion

TermDefinition
position an object's location in space
motion The change in an object's change in position over a specific amount of time.
rate A measure, quantity, or frequency usually measured in comparison with another object.
linear motion The movement of objects across lines
displacement The distance an object travels in a specific direction
scalar quantity The measure of distance alone
vector quantity something described by both a magnitude and a direction
speed When motion is described as distance per unit time
equation for speed Speed=distance/time
Instantaneous rate The speed of an object at a given time.
average rate The average rate of speed over an amount of time.
velocity the speed plus the direction an object is going.
uniform motion a constant rate of motion
formula for velocity velocity=final position-initial position/final time-initial time
