Electricity
Properties of Electrical Circuits
Term | Definition |
---|---|
conductors | an object or type of material that allows the flow of charge (electrical current) in one or more directions |
insulators | a substance or device which does not readily conduct electricity |
conduction | the process by which heat or electricity is directly transmitted through a substance when there is a difference of temperature or of electrical potential between adjoining regions, without movement of the material |
convection | the movement caused within a fluid by the tendency of hotter and therefore less dense material to rise, and colder, denser material to sink under the influence of gravity, which consequently results in transfer of heat. |
radiation | the transfer of energy as electromagnetic waves |
absorption | in optics, the transfer of light energy to particles of matter |
parallel circuits | a circuit in which the parts are joined in branches such that the voltage across each part is the same |
series circuits | a circuit in which the parts are joined one after another such that the current in each part is the same |
