Term | Definition |
---|---|
Acceleration | An increase in rate of change. |
Displacement | The act of moving something from its natural environment. |
Speed | A rate at which something happens. |
Mass | The property of a body that causes it to have weight. |
Inertia | The tendency of something to stay in rest or motion. |
Average speed | The distance traveled divided by the time elapsed. |
Momentum | The product of a body's mass and velocity. |
Velocity | Distance travelled per unit time. |
Newton's 3 laws | The three physical laws that, together, laid the foundation for classical mechanics and describe the relationship between a body and the forces acting upon it, and its motion in response to those forces. |
Law 1 | Every object moves in a straight line unless acted upon by a force. |
Law 2 | The acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the net force exerted and inversely proportional to the object's mass. |
Law 3 | For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. |
Biosphere | The regions of the Earth where organisms exist. |
Habitat | The type of environment in which a organism normally lives. |
immigration | The movement of persons into a place. |
Emigration | Moving from one place in order to settle in another. |
Symbiosis | The relations between two interdependent species of organisms. |
Demographics | A statistic charcticing human population. |
Limiting factors | Anything that constrains a population's size and slows or stops it from growing |
Extinction | The state of being no longer in existence. |
Trophic level | Each of several hierarchical levels in an ecosystem, comprising organisms that share the same function in the food chain and the same nutritional relationship to the primary sources of energy |
Birth rate | The ratio of live births in an area to the population of that area; expressed by per 1000 population per year. |
Death rate | The ratio of deaths in an area to the population of that area; expressed by per 1000 population per year. |
Life Expectancy | An expected time to live as calculated on the basis of statistical probabilities. |
Density | The amount per unit size. |
Carrng capacity | The number of people, other living organisms, or crops that a region can support without environmental degradation. |
