Impact of Motivation (2) Intrinsic & Extrinsic
Intrinsic Motivation Is related to internal mechanisms that encourage a person to behave in a certain way. This is essentially the way a person feels. E.G people would participate in sport because it makes them feel good and because enjoy it, they keep participating.
Extrinsic Motivation A form of reward for taking part in a sport or activity such as a medal, money and recognition.
Pyschology The study of the human mind
Tangible Means something that has a physical presence i.e. can be seen or touched (medal, trophy, money). Usually has some form of financial value.
Intangible Means something that does not have a physical presence, that cannot be seen or touched (praise, name in the paper)
Benefits of Motivation (5) Intensity of effort during participation is higher Continuing to take part on a regular basis Overcoming Adversity Higher enjoyment levels Increase intrinsic/extrinsic rewards
Impact of Self Confidence (4) Increased Intrinsic Motivation Positive Attitude to Fitness, Sport or Activity Improved Performance Improved Concentration and Effort
Methods to increase Self - Confidence (5) Positive Reinforcement Creating a positive environment Working with a partner of similar ability Goal Setting Self - Talk
S.M.A.R.T (Goal Setting) Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Time-Related
Specific This goal must be related to something that a participant wants to achieve.
Measurable The goal has to be able to be monitored so that a participant can see how well they are progressing towards their goal.
Achievable The goal has to be something that the participant are capable of doing.
Realistic Any barriers that the participant may face should be considered when setting a goal to ensure there is nothing that could prevent them from achieving the set goal
Time-Related There should be a timescale set that the participant is trying to achieve the set goal in
Anxiety Is the level of worry or nervousness a participant experiences
State Anxiety This refers to a particular situation. This may arise when there is a high pressure situation and the participate must perform.
Trait Anxiety Some people are naturally more nervous than others in similar situations. People with high levels of anxiety are more likely to feel anxious in situations where other people do not feel any anxiety at all. Relates to personality rather than feeling.
Somatic Anxiety This refers to the physical effects that are brought on by state/trait anxiety. E.g Butterflies, Muscle Tension, Increased HR
Cognitive Anxiety This type of anxiety refers to Psychological effects that are brought on by state/trait anxiety
Motivation Is the drive for a person to be successful to achieve a specific goal
