Genetics

Genetics 5-7th grade

TermDefinition
Genes Blueprints of visible traits on the chromosomes.
Chromosomes Threadlike structures made of DNA.
Diploid Cells One cell containing both sets of chromosomes.
Haploid Cells One cell containing only one set of chromosomes.
Heredity The passing of parents to offspring.
Genetics The study of how traits are passed on.
Dominant Trait The trait that is stronger or more powerful. Example: If a baby is born with brown eyes and one of his/her parents had brown eyes and the other had blue the baby would have brown eyes because brown is dominate over blue eyes.
Recessive Trait The weaker or unlikely trait.
Trait certain characteristics that a person has.
