Genetics 5-7th grade
| Term | Definition |

| Genes | Blueprints of visible traits on the chromosomes. |
| Chromosomes | Threadlike structures made of DNA. |
| Diploid Cells | One cell containing both sets of chromosomes. |
| Haploid Cells | One cell containing only one set of chromosomes. |
| Heredity | The passing of parents to offspring. |
| Genetics | The study of how traits are passed on. |
| Dominant Trait | The trait that is stronger or more powerful. Example: If a baby is born with brown eyes and one of his/her parents had brown eyes and the other had blue the baby would have brown eyes because brown is dominate over blue eyes. |
| Recessive Trait | The weaker or unlikely trait. |
| Trait | certain characteristics that a person has. |
