waves and Bohr models

| trough | bottom part of a wave |
| amplitude | height from equilibrium to crest or trough |
| wavelength | distance from crest to crest or trough to trough |
| equilibrium | center part of a wave |
| visible light | can be seen with the naked eye - all the colors of the rainbow |
| infrared light | light given off as heat |
| line spectra | energy released in the form of light when an electron FALLS to a lower energy level |
| red light | light with the lowest amount of energy |
| purple light | light with the highest amount of energy |
| period | a row across the periodic table |
| group | a column in the periodic table |
| family | a column in the periodic table |
| valence electrons | electrons in the outside energy level |
| energy level | a row across the periodic table |
| atomic mass | the mass of protons AND neutrons added together |
| atomic number | the number of protons in an atom, is also the number of electrons in a STABLE atom |
