| personification | The act of giving human characteristics to nonhuman or inanimate things Example: The flowers danced in the wind. |
| simile | Comparison of two unlike things using words such as like or as Example: He is fast like a cheetah. |
| metaphor | Comparison of two unlike things without using the words like or as Example: She is an angel. |
