Cell Structure

QuestionAnswer
What is the Chloroplast function? water and carbon dioxide gas to produce food for the plant. Chloroplasts capture light energy from the sun
Exocytosis The process where the cell's vesicles release their contents outside of the cell
Endocytosis The process where the cells take in a substance by surrounding it with a membrane
Mitochondrion processes of respiration and energy production occur.
Vacuole Organelles that store food, water, and waste material
Osmosis The diffusion of water molecules only through a cell membrane
Describe a plant cell: A plant cell is a eukaryotic cell that has structures that an animal cell doesn't have these are cell wall, a large vacuole, and chloroplast
What is the Cell membrane's function? the membrane is to protect the cell from its surroundings
What is the Mitochondria's function? Powerhouse of the cell
What is the Central Vacuole's function? to provide structure and support for the growing plant.
What is the Nucleus's function? 1) To store DNA 2) It coordinates the cell's activities, which include growth
Cell membrane A flexible covering that protects the inside of a cell from the environment outside of the cell.
Cell wall A stiff structure outside the cell membrane
facilitated diffusion When molecules pass through a cell membrane using special proteins called transport proteins
Active transport The movement of substances through a cell membrane only by using the cell's energy
Carbohydrate/example One sugar molecule, two sugar molecules, or a long chain of sugar molecules / GLUCOSE
Describe an animal cell: All animal cells are made of eukaryotic cells that have a nucleus and organelles. These organelles carry out specific functions.
What are the reactants/products of photosynthesis? Reactants- light energy, water, carbon dioxide, and chlorophyll Products- glucose (sugar), oxygen and water.
What are the reactants/products of cellular respiration? The main product of cellular respiration is ATP, waste products include carbon dioxide and water.
What do plants need to survive? air, water, nutrients, and sunlight
What is the Cell wall's function? is to give the cell strength and structure, and to filter molecules that pass in and out of the cell.
Nucleus The part of the eukaryotic cell that directs cell activities and contains genetic information

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
