a study of vocabulary terms
| Question | Answer |

| Armature | the rotating part of the motor |
| Attract | to draw objects to one another, such as unlike poles of magnets or electromagnets. |
| Battery | a group of two or more cells connected together, usually in a series, to furnish electrical current |
| Brushes | the contacts between the armature and the source of power in a motor. As the armature turns, the brushes cause the polarity of the armature to change, keeping the motor running smoothly |
| Cell | a single unit used to generate or store electrical energy. Commonly called a battery. |
| Compass | a device for finding direction, consisting of a magnetized needle which is free to turn in response to the magnetic field of the earth. |
| Electromagnet | a magnet formed when a wire carrying electricity is wrapped around an iron or steel core. |
