a study of vocabulary terms

QuestionAnswer
Armature the rotating part of the motor
Attract to draw objects to one another, such as unlike poles of magnets or electromagnets.
Battery a group of two or more cells connected together, usually in a series, to furnish electrical current
Brushes the contacts between the armature and the source of power in a motor. As the armature turns, the brushes cause the polarity of the armature to change, keeping the motor running smoothly
Cell a single unit used to generate or store electrical energy. Commonly called a battery.
Compass a device for finding direction, consisting of a magnetized needle which is free to turn in response to the magnetic field of the earth.
Electromagnet a magnet formed when a wire carrying electricity is wrapped around an iron or steel core.
