Axon Portion of each neuron that conducts(carries) electrochemical impulses (signals) from one neuron to another.
Myelin sheath Protective lipoprotein that surrounds each axon.
Multiple Sclerosis(MS) Nerve disease causing degradation of myelin sheaths.
CNS Central Nervous System
PNS Peripheral Nervous System
Central Nervous System Brain and spinal cord.
Peripheral Nervous System All the nerves except brain and spinal cord.
Sensory nerve cells Afferent neurons
Motor nerve cells Efferent neurons
Afferent Neurons PNS contains neurons that transmit stimuli to the brain for interpretation called
Efferent Neurons PNS contains neurons that transmit impulses from the brain to the muscles of movement called
Dopamine Chemical neurotransmitter that influences smooth muscle movements.
Parkinson's disease(PD) Degenerative nerve disease caused by DEFICIENT DOPAMINE.
Autonomic nervous system (ANS) Involuntary System. (breathing, coughing, sneezing, blinking, peristalsis, vomiting, L+D etc.)
Sympathetic division Fight or flight.
Parasympathetic division Rest and digest.
Norepinephrine (NE) Chemical neurotransmitter used by ANS.
Sympathetic division (fight or flight) (bronchodilation, tachycardia, tachypnea, pupillary dilation, paleness, etc.)
Parasympathetic division (rest and digest) (Digestion, reproduction, eupnea, normal HR, etc.)
Acetylcholine Chemical transmitter used by ANS parasympathetic division.
