Introductory geography vocabulary

TermDefinition
geography the study of the earth including physical and human features
physical map a map showing landforms and bodies of water
political map map that shows the boundaries or borders between states, countries and other lands
equator the imaginary line at zero degrees that runs across the middle of the earth
prime meridian the imaginary line dividing the earth into the eastern & western hemispheres through the middle of the earth
latitude imaginary lines running across the earth that help us locate places in the world
longitude imaginary lines that run up and down on the globe helping us locate places in the world
