Heat Transfer

TermDefinition
Temperature A measure of the average kinetic energy of the individual particles of an object.
absolute zero The temperature at which no more energy can be removed from matter.
Celsius The metric measure for temperature.
Kelvin The temperature scale commonly used in physical science.
Conduction Transferred from one particle of matter to another without the movement of matter itself.
Convection Transferred by the movement of currents with a fluid such as a liquid or a gas.
Radiation Transferred by electromagnetic waves.
Conductor A material that conducts heat well.
Insulator A material that does not conduct heat well.
Heat The transfer of energy between two objects with different temperatures.
Heat Transfer The transfer or flow due to the difference in temperature between two objects.
Convection Currents The flowing fluid that is moving because there is a temperature or density difference within the material.
Density A measurement that compares the amount of matter an object has to its volume.
Room Temperature A range of temperatures that denote comfortable habitation for humans.
Cold The absence or reduction of heat.
