Basin an area of land drained by a given river and its branches; area of land surrounded by land of higher elevation.

gulf part of a large body of water that extends into a shore line generally and deeply more indented than a bay.
isthmus a narrow stretch of land connecting 2 larger land areas.
island an area smaller than a continent completely surrounded by water.
strait narrow stretch of water joining 2 larger bodies of water.
plateau an area of flat rolling land at a high elevation about 300ft to 3,000 ft.
mouth of a river place whwre a stream or river flows into a large body of water.
source of a river place where a river or stream beging, often in highlands.
tributary small river or stream that flows into a large river or stream; a branch of a river
valley area of low liying land usually betwenn hills or mountains.
