Terms to Know

TermDefinition
Hemisphere is each half of the earth.
Key is the feature on a map that explains the symbols, colors, and lines on a map.
Scale Bar is the feature on a map that tells how a measured space on the map relates to actual distance on Earth.
Compass Rose is the feature on a map that shows directions.
Map Projection is one of several systems used to represent the round Earth on a flat map.
Scale is the relationship between distances on the map and on Earth.
Elevation is the measurement of how much above or below sea level a place is.
Relief is the difference between the elevation of one feature and the elevation of another feature near it.
Thematic Map is a map that shows specialized information.
Technology is any way that scientific discoveries are applied to particular use.
Remote Sensing is getting information from far away.
