| mesa | a land formation with a flat top and steep rock walls; it is a Spanish word that means table |
| mountain | a very high, rocky land formation, usually with steep sides and a rounded or pointed top; higher than hills |
| ocean | a very large expanse of sea of which there are five in the world: the AtlantIc, Pacific, Indian, ArctIc, and the AntarctIc |
| peninsula | land that is surrounded by water on three sides |
| reef | a ridge of corral or rock at or near the surface of the water |
| reservoir | an enlarged natural or artificial lake or pond created using a dam or lock to store water |
| rural area | relatIng to farm areas and life in the country with low population density |
| suburban area | a residential district located on the outskirts of a city |
| river | fresh water flowing in a channel to an ocean, sea, lake, or to another river; |
| swamp | a low-lying freshwater wetland; usually covered with woody vegetation |
| tributary | a small stream or river that flows into a lake or larger river |
| tundra | a cold, almost level treeless plain characteristIcs of the arctIc and subarctIc regions |
| urban area | relatIng to a city or town; having a high-density populatIon |
| valley | a low area between mountains; usually longer than it is wide and often having a river running through it |
| volcano | a cone-shaped mountain vent in the Earth’s crust that is formed as lava, rocks, ash, or hot gasses spew through the crater from deep inside |
