| Semisynthetic | A naturally occurring compound that has been chemically altered |
| Synthesized | Produced in a laboratory to imitate a naturally occurring compound |
| Nomenclature | Set of names; way of naming |
| HMO (health maintenance organization) | A type of health care/ insurance plan |
| Formulary | A listing of drugs approved for use or reimbursement |
| Oleaginous | Continuing oil; having oil like properties |
| Emollient | Softening and soothing to the skin |
| Hydrophobic | Repels water |
| Emulsion | Liquid mixture of water and oil |
| Occlusive | Closing or blocking; refers to a substance that closes or covers a wound and keeps the air from reaching the wound. |
| Homogenous | Having all the same qualities within a group |
| Viscous | Thick; almost jelly-like |
| Aromatic | Having a strong or fragrant smell(aroma) |
| Volatile | Evaporates rapidly |
| (ROA) route of administration | How a drug is introduced into or on the body. |
| Dosage form | The actual form of the drug(tablet, capsule, suppository, solution, etc) |
