Text Features

| Illustrations/ Photographs | Show readers exactly what something looks like |
| Captions | Provide information about a photograph or illustration |
| Sidebar | A text box that provides additional more in-depth information |
| Labels | Tells the names of the parts of a diagram, photo or illustration |
| Glossary | Provides definitions for the words in the text |
| Maps | Helps the reader understand where a place is located |
| Table of Contents | Notes the names of each chapter or section and gives page numbers |
| Heading | Explains what each section of the text is aout |
| Special Print | Words that are in bold print, italics or underlined to help readers know that the word is important |
| Text Features | Elements of a text that are not the main body of the text. Authors use the text features to highlight important information, |

| Graphics | Charts, graphs or illustrations to help the reader understand the topic more deeply |
