TermDefinition
Sentence A group of words which contain a subject and a verb and expresses a complete idea
Fragment A group of words which doesn't have both a subject and a verb (Phrase)
The four types of sentences Declarative(statement), Interrogative, imperative and exclamatory
Complex sentences Are made up of one main clause and one more subordinate clauses (Main or principle clause)
Subordinate Clause Does not make sense on its own but is dependant on the principal clause (Dependant clause)
Onomatopoeia Using words to describe sound
Simple Sentence Subject + Verb
Compound Sentence Two simple sentences joined together by a conjunction
Complex Sentence Two or more subjects
Letter A means of communication
Imagery The use of words to create pictures in the reader's imagination
Pronoun A word that stands for or takes the place of a noun
Subject Pronouns The doer of the action
Object Pronouns The person, animal, place or thing that receives the action of the verb
Personal Pronouns Can be used as the object of a verb
