| Term | Definition |

| Sentence | A group of words which contain a subject and a verb and expresses a complete idea |
| Fragment | A group of words which doesn't have both a subject and a verb (Phrase) |
| The four types of sentences | Declarative(statement), Interrogative, imperative and exclamatory |
| Complex sentences | Are made up of one main clause and one more subordinate clauses (Main or principle clause) |
| Subordinate Clause | Does not make sense on its own but is dependant on the principal clause (Dependant clause) |
| Onomatopoeia | Using words to describe sound |
| Simple Sentence | Subject + Verb |
| Compound Sentence | Two simple sentences joined together by a conjunction |
| Complex Sentence | Two or more subjects |
| Letter | A means of communication |
| Imagery | The use of words to create pictures in the reader's imagination |
| Pronoun | A word that stands for or takes the place of a noun |
| Subject Pronouns | The doer of the action |
| Object Pronouns | The person, animal, place or thing that receives the action of the verb |
| Personal Pronouns | Can be used as the object of a verb |
