Ch.38 Cardiotonic

Increased cardiac output to increase force of contraction.

Cardiotonic med Digoxin.
How is Digoxin taken? PO/IV : 0.8-2 nanograms/mL.
Adverse Reactions of Cardiotonic meds *Visual Disturbances, Headache, weakness, drowsiness.
Nursing Interventions Assess : lung sounds, edema, wt, labs. Decrease K+ makes the heart sensitive to digoxin. Check Apical pulse; Hold if <60, or >100. Draw digoxin level: Immediately before the dose is due or 6-8 hrs after administration. No stopping abruptly.
